Lying and Stealing (LSglf)

Description
[This course will take you about 1h15 to complete.]

It is common for children to lie and steal as they grow up. This can be more to do with their lack of maturity as opposed to morality. Often lying and stealing is something children grow out of.

The difficulties with lying and stealing depend on the situation, the age and experiences of the child. Children in care, for example, can be a lot more vulnerable to grooming and peer pressure which may lead them to lie and steal. In some cases, it can point to more serious psychological problems. If it becomes more serious, it might result in criminal behaviour and activities. Care-experienced people are overrepresented in the criminal system and represent between 24% and 27% of the adult prison population. So, as a foster carer, this is a behaviour to monitor closely.

In this course, we will explore the reasons behind why children lie and steal at different stages of development, what the consequences can be and how you can discipline, listen to and support your foster child to change their behaviour.

In this course, you will learn:
- Why children may lie and steal.
- Consequences of lying and stealing.
- What behaviour is normal and when you may need to intervene.
- How to discipline and support your child.
- How to prevent this behaviour.
